Lava Stone Countertops

Lava Stone Countertops are a popular choice for kitchen designers. They love to use these countertops in brilliant colors to create stunning designs.

Cabinets, countertops, and tile backsplashes in vivid colors are very popular right now, and color flexibility is important for creating a bright kitchen design.

They are stain and hot-pan resistant, unlike most marble, granite, or quartz worktops.
The possibilities for color are endless, and the resulting finish is one-of-a-kind and long-lasting. The ability to extract lava stone from its local volcanic region is shared by two firms (Pyrolave from France and Rainieri from Italy).

The rough lava stone is prepared in a multi-step process that includes the application of an enamel glaze and kiln firing at 1500 degrees F.

What is Lava Stone? And What are Lava Stone Countertops?

Lava stone is a natural volcanic rock that is quarried, cut into slabs, and then fired at a high temperature. The fact that it is volcanic makes it tough: lava stone can withstand high temperatures, offers even heat distribution, and can be glazed.

These countertops are made from lava stone that comes from ancient volcano eruptions. Most of the lava stone countertops come from France, but other countries are getting in on the action too. Lava stone is a natural product that comes in a variety of colors.

You can find Lava stone countertops in any color you want because they are dyed during the manufacturing process.

The finished stone is shipped in bulk to the manufacturing facility. Once it has been extracted, the stone is cut to fit each order individually. Then, at a temperature of more than 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (1000 Celsius), the lava stone countertop is glazed with enamel.

The glazing on the countertop is very smooth and does not let water through. As the countertop cools, small cracks in the glazing will appear. These are called crazing, and they make every countertop unique.

Advantages and disadvantages of Lava Stone Countertops

Advantages of Lava Stone Countertops

Resistant to temperature change: Lava stone is resistant to heat and cold. It doesn't get too hot or too cold, and it also doesn't change the temperature a lot. That means that if you put hot pans on it, the pan won't damage the surface.

Durable:
The firing process makes a surface that is very hard. It is strong and can resist chemicals and the sun. But be careful with knives, best to use a cutting board.

Nonporous: The material is resistant to water, bacteria, and stains.
Can be used indoors and outdoors: For a variety of reasons, lava stone is tough enough to endure whatever the elements throw at it. Note that because of its strength and permanence, lava stone has been used for road signs in France for much of the last century.

Lot's of choice:
It's a high-quality item that can be customized in terms of color, shape, and size.

Sustainable: Lava stone, which is a naturally occurring resource, is also ecologically beneficial since it is so durable (reducing the waste associated with having to replace less durable countertops).

Disadvantages of Lava Stone Countertops

Despite the growing popularity, enthusiastic testimonials, and advantages, no countertop is flawless.

Here are some of the disadvantages:

Cost: The cost of lava countertops is high, compared to quartz countertops. Lava countertops cost around $250-$300 per square foot. This is because they are made by the French company Pyrolave.

All of the countertops are imported because of environmental regulations on the extraction of slabs and the use of manual labor in manufacturing.

These factors drive prices to extreme levels, making the lava stone countertops cost almost the most expensive countertop materials

Durability has yet to be proved: Volcanic lava stone countertops are new. People don't know if they will last a long time or not.

Other types of countertops, like granite counters or engineered quartz, have been known to last for a long time.
It is not possible to refinish it If you grow weary of the lava stone countertop's style, color, or design, it will have to be completely replaced.

There are no restitution choices for altering the enameled surface's color, refinishing it, or repairing any significant damage

What kind of Finishes can a Lava Stone Countertop have?

High Gloss: The most well-known enameled lava stone countertop finish is this one. Countertops come in almost every color, from bright, vibrant hues such as turquoise, pink, purple, and yellow to darker more subdued earth tones like beige and white.

Matte:
There are many options for this style, which may also be found in a range of colors.

Crystalline: A glassy layer is added to the standard glossy enameled finish. All colors are viable, and it gives a brighter color with a slightly translucent appearance that enhances the crackled effect of the enamel.
Transparent: A glaze is applied to the surface without enamel, resulting in a crystal sheen. The result is a glossy gray color that highlights and allows the lava stone's natural pattern to show through, and it isn't as gleaming or bright as "metallic" below.

Metallic: A distressed finish with a high-luster sheen is similar to a metal countertop. It can be made of solid gray paint or rustic mottled gray, copper-brown weathered paint.
